PayNorthwest is delighted to partner with KEXP 90.3 FM and underwrite their programming. A fixture in Seattle’s music community, KEXP is an independent public broadcaster that has operated in Seattle since 1972.

The station famously debuted Nirvana’s “Floyd the Barber” over the radio waves in 1988, one of its many signature moments in the local music scene. Read the legend of Kurt Cobain hand-delivering the band’s first Sub Pop single, “Love Buzz,” to the station and then calling in a request for the track from a gas station payphone.

With help from Paul Allen and the Experience Music Project, KEXP evolved and flourished in the early 2000s by adapting to new technologies and embracing the promise of the still-young internet, adding a real-time playlist and digital streaming archive to their website – no easy feat for a non-commercial radio station!

It’s through listener support and local businesses’ underwriting, like that of PayNorthwest, that KEXP is able to remain independent and offer its awe-inspiring and diverse selection of music, specialty shows (shout-out to Johnny Horn, Preaching the Blues on Sunday mornings), live in-studio sessions and interviews.

Here at PayNorthwest, we’re fortunate to remain similarly independent, passionate about our industry, rooted in our community. As the payroll and HR landscape changes during the COVID-19 pandemic, we’re able to adapt our software and service to meet the needs of our customers, taking a long-term view of what is best for clients and creating solutions tailor-fit to client needs instead of taking a cookie-cutter, top-40 approach.

Learn why you should be putting us to work on your most-pressing HR- and payroll-related issues.

Stream KEXP next time you’re running payroll or finalizing a new hire’s paperwork.
